Moledzki Takes Gold in Brazil

For the second consecutive year Jay Moledzki was on hand at Gui's Farm in Brazil to set the canopy piloting standard as well as take the top honors. For some time now Gui Padua has been investing time and money into his farm in Minas Gerais, Brazil to create the "X town" project. The event this year included not only swooping but aerial displays, mountain bikes, off-road racers and the Brazilian mountain boarding championships.

The annual event is becoming a local hot-spot and is highly attended by the surrounding communities. Many thanks go out to the neighboring farmers and competitors who were on hand to help stop a wild fire that nearly engulfed the event site on the final day! It was a close call but in the end, catastrophe was averted and everyone was able to enjoy the awards ceremony and celebrate together... Brazilian style!

PD Team Competes at the PST Championships in Colorado

Jonathan Tagle of the PD Factory Team and Nick Batsch of Team Extreme battled out last August for the title of Pro Swooping Tour Champion, 2007. In the end, Batsch took top honors, defeating Tagle by a mere 8.3 total points. Twenty-nine pilots competed in the event.

In typical PST fashion, the meet included a mix of "traditional" swooping events (accuracy and distance) and artistic events (freestyle). Both jumpers performed strongly in all three events, but it was Batsch's freestyle performance that ultimately earned him the overall victory.

Batsch won a hard-fought, two-round, distance event with Tagle finishing a close second. Tagle won accuracy, with Batsch securing 4th. The two competitors were neck and neck going into the freestyle event with less than one point difference. Tagle executed well in both rounds, first laying down a clean Boomerang - Nac Nac - Cowboy, followed by a smooth, composed Lazyboy - Tick Jockey.

Batsch kicked it up a notch, throwing down two difficult routines: Boomerang - Blindman - Switchblade and a Miracleman - Ghostrider - Lazyboy with a lookback. Impressive as it was, Batsch’s performance wasn't enough to win the freestyle event, but it did give him the edge over Tagle.

Interestingly, Jeffro Provenzano, of Team Xaos, won freestyle with two perfectly executed, single-trick routines. First, a flawless, almost slow-motion Blindman, followed in round two by a slow, methodical Miracle Man, both with perfect stand-up landings. The performance earned Jeffro third place overall.

Tagle's PD teammate, Shannon Pilcher, struggled in the distance event, but clawed his way back to fifth place overall, with a 3rd place finish in accuracy and 7th in freestyle.

Tagle, Pilcher and the PD Factory Team congratulate Batsch for a solid performance on his home turf.

After the competition, Tagle and Pilcher organized two remarkable canopy formation flights with Team Fastrax, including a high-altitude 7-way criss-cross, and a sick, synchronized 7-way 270-degree landing on the Mile-Hi pond. Thanks to Chris Hayes for flying camera on both jumps. Check out the video.

PD Factory pilots Ian Bobo and Jay Moledzki were competing in Holland and Brazil simultaneous to the PST championships.

PD Factory Team Swoops into Oceana Airshow

In early September, the Blue Angels, the Geico Skytypers, a plethora of military jets, and the members of the PD Factory Team performed for aviation buffs and local spectators at the Oceana Airshow in Virginia Beach. PD Team pilots, Jonathan Tagle, Jay Moledzki and J.C. Colclasure joined the Blackwater Parachute Team for some well choreographed demo jumps during the three day airshow.

Spiraling flag jumps, 4-way diamond CReW formations, high speed crisscross landings, and the professionalism of the Blackwater Parachute Team resulted in a successful event. After each landing the team walked the airshow line, signed autographs and shook hands with the spectators. While packing parachutes for the next jump they answered questions about skydiving and their jump gear.

Sharing the ride onboard the H-53 Navy helicopter were the official parachute team of the British Army, the Red Devils. “It was a great honor to be invited to participate with this caliber of jumpers,” said Moledzki. “We're looking forward to jumping again soon.”

Thanks to the Blackwater Parachute Team: Chris Gay, Keith Thivierge, Jerome McCauley, Brian Pangburn, Pam Pangburn, Rusty Vest, Dana Bowman, Herschel Davis and Judie Cochiolo.
